I have had this book on my TBR for a while now. I was really excited to be approved for an ARC via Netgalley because the synopsis completely drew me in and I was looking forward to seeing what this book was all about. However, I ended up DNfing this book. I just could not get into it… at. all.
I think my biggest issue with this was the fact that we were given very little backstory to what had happened before we were thrown into this book and the world. I literally had no idea what was going on or why for most of the time. I kept having to re read the pages etc. because I would start thinking about something else and I would have no idea what I had just read. I found it too easy to put the book down and do something else.
Another issue I had with this book was the multiple POV’s. I don’t usually have an issue with them as long as they are done well, but I felt like Miguel and Sofi’s voices were too similar for me. I found it difficult to distinguish between the two – and this stopped me from connecting to the characters separately.
I think another issue which didn’t help was the fact that the file that I downloaded to my kindle hadn’t been formatted very well, which meant that it distracted a lot from the reading experience. I might pick up a physical copy and see if I like it better when it releases, but I am undecided about that so far.
All in all, I was pretty disappointed with this book. I literally had no idea what was going on or why and I didn’t feel any empathy toward the characters because I felt like they were all too similar. I gave this book 1/5 stars.
