Cover Reveal: Deranged Angels and Cannibal Hearts by Martina McAtee

Hey guys! I have a cover reveal for you today! If you are a regular reader of my blog, you might remember that I posted a cover reveal for Sinister Souls and Dead Things. This was originally supposed to be book 3 in the Dead Things series by Martina McAtee; however, during the writing process, Martina realised that book three was too long! So instead, she has decided to turn Sinister Souls into book 4 and has introduced Deranged Angels and Cannibal Hearts as book three.

This brings us to today’s post, which is the cover reveal for book three! It is absolutely beautiful and I am completely in love with it (especially because it has Silas on the cover and I am #TeamSilas). so, without further ado:

Deranged Angels and Cannibal Hearts by Martina McAtee

Expected Publication: 2018 by Seven Sisters Publishing

Four months ago, Ember Lonergan made a decision that changed everything. She brought back a life, and it cost her a life in return. Only magic kept the pack from suffering the severe consequences of Ember’s rash decision. She thought the secret would stay buried forever. Josephine ensured them the spell would hold and the Grove would never know what they’d done.

But that was before Silas. Silas changed everything. He believes Ember is the only thing standing between him and the love he’s carried for over a century. He’s determined to take everything she loves away from her starting with her pack, and he has plenty of help. He’s got the original coven, he’s got Quinn, and he has a magic that rivals the gods.

The pack can only beat Silas by standing together, but that’s not as easy as it once was. People are keeping secrets, half the pack is crazy, and two of them are currently dead. Despite all of this, Ember still believes she can fix it, that she can save them all, she just needs more time. But just when she’s convinced she’s finally figured it all out, new players enter the game.

Isn’t the cover so beautiful? I am completely in love with it and I cannot wait for this instalment in the series. I need more Silas in my life (#TeamSilas).

Cover Reveal: Sinister Souls and Dead Things by Martina McAtee

Hey everyone! I have an amazing cover reveal for you today! This cover reveal is for the third book in the Dead Things series by Martina McAtee and it is absolutely gorgeous!

SSADT

Sinister Souls and Dead Things by Martina McAtee

Expected Publication: January 2018 by 7 Sisters Publishing

17-year-old Ember Lonergan has made her pack a promise: To go after their enemies before their enemies can come for them. It was a bold statement that she has no idea how to back up. She hasn’t mastered driving on the highway, much less how to take down a hostile system of government. What’s worse, half her pack is crazy, and the other half is broken…possible forever.

But none of that matters anymore. Ember isn’t just Ember anymore. Ember and her cousins are the prophesied Trinity, foretold to take down the druids and break the curse that’s plagued witches and reapers for centuries. The Oracle has been gathering their allies—laying the groundwork for their return—for decades, but all of that work is destroyed in an instant when Ember’s betrayed by somebody she thought she could trust.

Alliances are crumbling. Humans are missing. People are dying. The High Inquisitor has arrived. Witches have taken over the school, and they are instituting new policies every day.

Their new message is clear:

If you fight for the Trinity, you burn with the Trinity.

Isn’t it so pretty! I am absolutely loving this series so far and I cannot wait to see what this instalment has in store for us! For anyone who has read the books, #TeamSilas over here.

Dark Dreams and Dead Things by Martina McAtee

Published: July 15th 2016 – Self Published

17-year-old November Lonergan spent her whole life feeling like an outsider. She was right. She’s a reaper like her mother; like her two cousins, Kai and Tristin. The supernatural world believes they are part of a prophecy to save them from an evil known as the Grove. Ember just wants to survive high school and fix the fallout from bringing back her friend.

Old enemies are lurking; waiting for their opportunity to strike but the pack has a new problem. A group of legendary hunters has resurfaced, threatening the reapers and anybody who stands with them. They are making good on their threats too; attacking those closest to the pack.

Their only hope of defeating the Legionaries involves trusting a stranger to perform a dangerous spell to advance Ember and her cousin’s powers. But Ember has a secret; a secret she can’t tell the pack. One that leaves the pack vulnerable.

An attack on pack allies, leaves one member of the group injured and another missing, along with a mysterious girl named Evangeline who may play a bigger part in this than any of them realize. As the Legionaries are closing in, the pack must trust their enemies, enter hostile territories, and play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a psychopath. Their entire plan lynches on a dangerous bargain, but rescuing one member of the pack could mean losing another in their place…possibly forever.

DDDT is the second book in the Dead Things series and basically starts off where the previous one ends! I enjoyed this book as much as the previous and I cannot wait for the next instalment!

What I really enjoyed about this book was that it started where the previous one ended. There was no time lapse between events and I think it was done pretty smoothly! It also has a list of who the main people are, who they are connected to, what their powers are and who they are allied with. This was extremely useful because it helped to keep everyone straight.

I liked Ember in this book just as much as I liked her in the previous one. She remains an extremely relatable character and I think the author has done a good job of showing her long term reaction to what has happened and how it affected her mentally and physically! It definitely makes her even more relatable in this sense.  I still didn’t ship the ship that appears to be sailing where Ember is concerned and I just… I want someone else for her! I just don’t know who yet!

I was also really glad that we got to know more about Mace! In the first book, he was an extremely enigmatic character and we didn’t really find out much about him or his past in the first book! I am so glad we got to explore some of his past in this book because the mystery was killing me! I definitely think this insight into his character made him all the more relatable and definitely likeable in a different sense because you begin to sorry for him as a reader!

As a reiteration of my review of book #1, I TOTALLY SHIP THE SHIP!!! Kai and Rhys are even MORE adorable in this book because of RJ!!!!!!!!!! I love them and I always look forward to seeing more from them within the book and … let’s just say… I am waiting for the Sexual Tension (Yes it deserves caps) to finally be addressed because I SHIP IT!!! AND I WANT IT AND I SHIP IT… ugh

Ok, there is something that needs to be addressed here. Silas. If anyone who is reading this has read the books or is part of Martina’s Deadlings on fb, you will understand the ongoing feud that is Silas. If anyone was wondering on which side of the spectrum I fall, it would be #TeamSilas. I really really liked his character and I definitely view him as someone who is misunderstood! I cannot wait to see more of him in the next book!

I loved the introduction of all the new characters! They all brought something new and unique to the table and I am really looking forward to seeing how their characters develop as the series goes on…

The Plot of this book also kept up with the character development that happened. There was always something happening and it was just one thing after another and it really helped to keep me on my toes and to keep me turning the pages just to see what was going to happen next!

All in all I really enjoyed myself reading this book and I am definitely looking forward to the next instalment – especially after that ending!! I gave this book 5/5 stars.

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and Bookish

Hey guys! It is time for another TTT. This week is freebie week because they have been unable to refresh the list due to personal reasons (let’s be honest, a break after 6,5 years is deserved!). So, I thought I would go through the previous topics and chose top ten authors who deserve more recognition! There are so many amazing authors out there who I feel definitely need to be seen and heard more purely because their writing and their books are just AMAZING!! So, without further ado, and in no particular order:

10. kate Katelyn Anderson – Kate is the author of the Tainted Souls trilogy which starts with Everlasting Flame! I absolutely love the first book in the series (she is currently wrapping up book 2!) and I definitely feel like this book needs more love! It is absolutely amazing and the MC is so sassy!

9. karen Karen Tomlinson – Karen is the author of A Bond of Venom and Magic (which Debuted last year), which belongs to the Goddess and the Guardians series! Book 2 is currently in the works (but I have already Beta read and it was FANTABULOUS!!) and I think any fantasy lover really needs to be reading this book!

8. candy-atkins Candy Atkins – Candy is the author of The Lost Knight series, which I fell in love with from the very first book! The first two books have been published and, lets just say, I read book 2 in one sitting it was THAT GOOD!!! Her work is definitely underrated and, can we just mention that the covers are so PRETTY!

7. kelly-charron Kelly Charron – Kelly is the author of Pretty Wicked which takes a unique view of serial killings! I say unique because, instead of being written from the view of the victim, it is written from the view of the Killer!!! It was definitely interesting to see the psychology behind the killer…

6. luke Luke Taylor – Luke is the author of quite a few different things, but I have personally only read Vault of Dreams which I adored! He has a very lyrical style of writing and I am so looking forward to some of the other works he is currently working on!

5. martina Martina McAtee – Soooo, I literally only finished Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things on Sunday, but it was SOOOO GOOOOOD and I feel like everyone should be reading this book!

4. melissa Melissa A. Craven – The Emerge series (whilst still being released etc.) is one of my favourites out there! I absolutely loved the first two books and I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for book 3!

3. andrew-toy Andrew Toy – I have only read These Great Affects but it was just such an emotional ride!!

2. dyllin D. T. Dyllin – I read Somniare a while back and I still need to read the second book! However, it is a book set in a dreamworld state and it was so well executed and so unique!!

1. maria-padian Maria Padian – I read Wrecked quite a while back now which is about  college rape! It is so true to todays society and it definitely needs to be read by everyone!

That’s it! I love all of these authors and I definitely feel like their books need some more love going around!

Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things by Martina McAtee

Published: August 31st 2015 – Self Published

17 year old Ember Denning has made an art of isolating herself. She prefers the dead. She spends her days skipping school in old cemeteries and her nights hiding from her alcoholic father at the funeral home where she works. When her own father dies, Ember learns her whole life is a lie. Standing in the cemetery that’s been her sanctuary, she’s threatened by the most beautiful boy she’s ever seen and rescued by two people who claim to be her family. They say she’s special, that she has a supernatural gift like them…they just don’t know exactly what it is.

They take her to a small Florida town, where Ember’s life takes a turn for the weird. She’s living with her reaper cousins, an orphaned werewolf pack, a faery and a human genius. Ember’s powers are growing stronger, morphing into something bigger than anything anybody anticipated. Ember has questions but nobody has answers. Nobody knows what she is. They only know her mysterious magical gift is trying to kill them and that beautiful dangerous boy from the cemetery may be the only thing standing between her and death.

As Ember’s talents are revealed so are the secrets her father hid and those in power who would seek to destroy her. What’s worse, saving Ember has put her cousins in danger and turned her friend’s lives upside down. Ember must learn to embrace her magic or risk losing the family she’s pieced together.

I basically went into this book with absolutely zero expectations… I hadn’t even really read the blurb before I even opened the book! So, I didn’t even know what I was walking into! I absolutely loved this book and I really enjoyed myself whilst reading this book! It was full of action, along with character development!

The story follows Ember, a seemingly normal girl who has a thing for the dead (which is a little bit creepy, lets be honest here). However, things quickly change and we find out that she is not really all that normal and that’s where all the fun begins! Her story is full of so man twisty turns and gasp moments and I absolutely loved it! I also really liked Ember! She was definitely relatable and I felt extremely sorry for her – and it was growing as we found out more about her and her past! I really loved her character and she is definitely someone I could imagine being friends with in real life!

I liked each and every character in this book. There wasn’t a character that was really surplus to the story because each and every one brought something to the table that changed the story in one way or another. Even characters we meet very briefly at the beginning of the book are intertwined and tied in somehow to the bigger picture and it made for some fantastic plot twists and moments that you really just weren’t expecting.

This book was told from multiple perspectives, which means the book (and the characters) are always in danger of melding together so that they become difficult to distinguish from one another. This was definitely NOT the case with this book and every character had their own personality and quirky traits. I loved the differences between all the characters and I had no issues determining between the characters or trying to figure out which character I was reading if I put the book down in the middle of a chapter.

Let me just talk about Kai and Rhys for two seconds. THEY ARE SO FRICKIN’ ADORABLE AND MY HEART CAN’T EVEN TAKE IT BECAUSE…ADORABLE!! *Ahem* I ship the ship and I will always ship the ship because this ship is life. 🙂

Let’s also talk about Mace and Ember… I like them both, don’t get me wrong, and after the ending, I think its kinda cute. However, I personally don’t ship them. I just don’t feel the spark like I did with Rhys and Kai, which means, I personally think there is more to it and I think something is going to happen… which will make sense to me! I just need to read book two!

The ending was so bittersweet! I didn’t even know what to do with myself! I felt so sorry for everyone but at the same time… I DON’T EVEN KNOW!! Ugh. It was a great ending, ok?

All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to grab a copy of book two! (which will hopefully be soon!). I would definitely recommend this book to everyone! I gave this book 5/5 stars.
