Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and Bookish

Hey guys! It is time for another TTT! Before I begin, I just want to say that this post may look a little funny because I am doing it on my phone!! My links appear to be working on the phone, but not on the computer… Which is weird! Anyway, this weeks topic is top ten book set in x place. I decided to do high school setting because I think that there is a lot of fantasy settings out there etc.

10.

Because I Love You by Tori Rigby – I really enjoyed this book. It dealt with issues that haven’t really been written about a lot with the Young Adult world, so it was definitely unique for me!

9.

Unnatural Deeds by Cyn Balog – so technically this book hasn’t been released yet, but this book left me reeling! Even thinking about it now, I just… I have no words!!

8.

This is Where it Ends by Marieke Niejkamp – I read this book on the day it came out in one sitting. It was amazing!!

7.

What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler – this was a very powerful read and based on true events!! Definitely recommend this to everyone!

6.

The Merciless by Danielle Vega – ok, this book did not turn out to be what I expected… It isn’t all set in secondary school, only some of it … But still!!

5.

To all the boys I’ve loved before by Jenny Han – if you need a feel good pick me up, this one is definitely for you!!

4.

Biggest Flirts by Jennifer Echols – I absolutely adored this book and I connected to the characters really quickly! It’s definitely a cute summer read and it is a series that I need to finish!

3.

The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu – I think this book is a very true look at rumours created during your time in school and the people who create them!!

2.

Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill – so, technically this is set on a school trip, but for me that still counts as secondary school!! This book was a really cute, fast read and definitely one to re read if I need a pick me up!

1.

Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas – again, not technically set in school, but it is set during spring break of senior year, so I’m using it! I think anyone who has read this book will agree that this is a must read!! For everybody!!

That’s it!! Have you guys read any of these books? Did you enjoy them?

What settings did you guys pick? Feel free to leave links and comments and I will check them all out!

Hey guys! Time for another TTT. This week it is top ten books that made me laugh (or giggle). I am just going to jump right in there – so in no particular order:

10.spelled Spelled by Betsy Schow. This book had me rolling around with laughter! Amazon

9. The distance between us The Distance Between Us by Kasie West – This author never fails to make me smile or laugh! Especially because her books are just so damned cute!! Amazon

8. anna and the French kiss Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – This book is pretty adorable, especially because the MC’s are easily relatable and fairly funny. Amazon

7. the selection The Selection by Kiera Cass – America made me laugh more than once, especially because she reminded me of myself!! Amazon.

6. Introductions, ghost bird Introductions by C. L. Stone – This book (series) is very cutesy and the boys just make everything funnier! Amazon

5. meant to be Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill – I thought Jason was a wild card and fairly amusing. I loved his easy going attitude. Amazon.

4. The Biggest Flirts Biggest Flirts by Jennifer Echols Another really easy going book in which the MC made me laugh throughout! Amazon

3. to all the boys I've loved before To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han – I think certain situations in this book were highly amusing! Amazon

2. Shatter Me Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi – I know this is not your average laugh out loud book, but some of the things that Kenji came out with just had me in stitches! Amazon.

1. On The Fence On the Fence by Kasie West – I know this is another Kasie West book, but who can resist the witty charm of this authors’ MC’s?? Amazon

That is it!! All of these books made me laugh in one form or another! What did you guys add? Please feel free to leave links and comments and I will check them all out!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and Bookish.

Hey guys! time for another TTT and this week is top ten characters who are fellow book lovers. When I first read this, I completely blanked. Then I thought about it some more and realised that there are a fair few out there. So, in no particular order:

10. Shatter Me Juliette from Shatter Me. Juliette is a very curious character and she comes across as someone who wants to know everything there is to know about everything. She is also a character who would use books as a form of escapism from her life, who wrote in her notebook when she was locked up.

9. throne of glass Celaena from Throne of Glass. Celaena is a character well known for being a female MC who kicks a lot of butt. However, she is also a book lover! Who would have thought it?

8. Harry Potter Hermione from Harry Potter. I can imagine that Hermione is going to be a particularly popular choice this week! She is our beloved smart ass – who wouldn’t pick her for this weeks topic!

7. game of thrones Tyrion Lannister from A Game of Thrones. Tyron uses his mind to keep an edge on those around him – and to do this, he always has a book in his hand.

6. pride and prejudice Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice. As Darcy points out, Elizabeth is constantly extending her knowledge through copious amounts of reading. She always seems to have a book in her hand!

5. the bad beginning Klaus from A Series of Unfortunate Events. Back to my childhood for a moment to visit Klaus Baudelaire. He was our inventor, who managed to get the Baudelaire children out of horrid situations through his constant studying and reading.

4. First Days Sang from The Academy Series. Sang, although she isn’t constantly reading, she does enjoy a good book – I guess thats what makes her so relatable.

3. to all the boys I've loved before Lara from to all the boys I’ve loved before. While it isn’t shown that Lara is someone who enjoys to read, she definitely comes across that way. She is a typical nerdy character and she did write all those letters – her way of communicating her feelings!

2. belle Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Now, I don’t actually know if Belle was a book nerd from the get go, but I grew up watching her on screen and there she was a book nerd. So I guess I am cheating – but I am sure you don’t mind!

1. beautiful player Hanna from Beautiful Player. Until Hanna is forced to go and get a life, she is a character who is constantly studying and working – so it would make sense that she is a book worm!

What did you guys come up with? Feel free to leave comments and links below.

Hey guys! I realise I haven’t posted in the last couple of weeks – I seem to have spent most of my days sleeping! Problems of a pregnant woman! Either way, I am posting this Weeks TTT which is top ten books that feature diversity! So without further ado and in no particular order:

10. dragonlance Dragonlance by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. These books feature a wide range of people, species and minorities in general. Plus, each person has their own demons and their own social problems to face!

9. Red Queen Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. This book represents people of different classes and treatments based purely on the colour of their blood. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one!!

8. pointe Pointe by Brandy Colbert. Abduction, anorexia, love interests etc. Do we need any more diversity?

7. Splintered Splintered by A. G. Howard. Despite the fact that this couldn’t be realistic in any sense or form, all you have to do is compare the characters that come from Wonderland to those who come from the real world to see the diversity. It is almost like a culture shock!

6. Shatter Me Shatter Me be Tahereh Mafi. A book with a minority of people who face a social stigma based on the fact that they have powers. Plus, you know, dystopian society and all that…

5. the selection The Selection by Kiera Cass. 35 girls, all from different upbringings, backgrounds, classes and locations.

4. two boys kissing Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan. Levithans books normally feature some form of diversity in it – so I decided to go with the first book of his that I ever read, which features gay teens as well as a chorus of men who passed away from aids and a bunch of teens facing problems of their own in relation to their sexuality.

3.the fat girl The Fat Girl by Marilyn Sachs. An overweight girl who faces the stigmas of high school society and an abusive relationship.

2. to all the boys I've loved before To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. Our MC has a Korean background – so some of the culture differences show within this book is a form of diversity.

1. Divergent Divergent by Veronica Roth. Need I explain this one?

So that’s it? What’s on your lists? Feel free to leave links and comments below.

Hey people! Time for another TTT. Is it just me, or does it seem like this year is flying? It feels like yesterday when I wrote last weeks TTT. Oh well, this weeks TTT is Top Ten Books on My Summer TBR. My summer TBR is a list that seems to be constantly updating itself, so while this is what I am currently hoping to read this summer, it may change based on books that I add to my TBR or books that I actually get. Without further ado, and in no particular order:

10. those girls Those Girls by Lauren Saft. I added this book to my TBR a few weeks ago, and it made my summer TBR 🙂

9. spelled Spelled by Betsy Schow. Who doesn’t love a retelling of childhood fairytales?

8. p.s. i still love you P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han. I loved To All The Boys I’ve loved Before and I have been waiting for this book for ages! I actually already own a copy and I will be cracking it open after I have finished reading A Storm of Swords!

7. beautiful player Beautiful player by Christina Lauren. Again, another series that I have adored so far and again a book that I already own but need to read!

6. the art of being normal The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson. I added this to my TBR list after reading a glowing review of it! Plus, I am adding it to my British Books Challenge – definitely a book that I want to read over the summer!

5. the fill in bf The Fill In Boyfriend by Kasie West. Anything Kasie West has written is perfect Summer reading and I literally cannot wait to open this book! I have loved every book that she has written and she is definitely on my favourite authors list.

4. tiny pretty things Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton. As a Black Swan fan and as a current PLL binge watcher (although I was a fan quite a while back), these two definitely need to meet! Who doesn’t enjoy reading about bitchy girls?

3. they all fall down They All Fall Down by Roxanne ST. Claire. Again, PLL meets Final Destination. I know what Final Destination is about but I have never actually seen it! Either way, this is definitely on my summer TBR.

2. the revenge playbook The Revenge Playbook by Rachael Allen. I find books about revenge fairly funny and enjoyable and they normally remind me of John Tucker Must Die and they are, at least for me, feel good books! Schadenfreude…

1. the dead house The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich. I guess this is really a summery book, rather more of a halloween read. However, this is being release late summer and it is a book I NEED!! It looks so cool! So, to hell with normal, cutesy summer reads and bring on the horror! 🙂

That’s it guys! I could have easily carried on beyond the realms of ten books, but I stuck to the rules. *pats back* Now, I am off to have a lay down before attempting to eat again… What are your summer TBR’s this year? Feel free to leave your comments and links below and I will check them all out! 🙂

Hey guys! I really should have done this post a little earlier considering how long I have been up, but a Lord of the Rings marathon ensued… I didn’t have any new books last week to show you, but I do have a couple for you guys now!

dirt daughter Dirt Daughter by Michele Shaw. This was a Netgalley find and I am so happy that they approved me for it! I have already read and reviewed it which you can find one post down! Definitely a TBR!

p.s. i still love you P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han. I adored To All The Boys I Loved Before and I literally cannot wait to open this book!

I also requested a couple of titles from Netgalley which have yet to be approved – cross your fingers for me!

this is where it ends This is Where it Ends by Marieke Nijkamp.

spelled Spelled by Betsy Schow.

I am really really really hoping to be approved for This Is Where it Ends!! I am so excited for this book and I think I would explode if I had to wait till January to be approved!! What about you guys? Feel free to leave your answers and links in the comments section below and I will check them all out!

Fire with Fire by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian

fire with fire

When sweet revenge turns sour… Book two of a trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian.

Lillia, Kat, and Mary had the perfect plan. Work together in secret to take down the people who wronged them. But things didn’t exactly go the way they’d hoped at the Homecoming Dance.

Not even close.

For now, it looks like they got away with it. All they have to do is move on and pick up the pieces, forget there ever was a pact. But it’s not easy, not when Reeve is still a total jerk and Rennie’s meaner than she ever was before.

And then there’s sweet little Mary…she knows there’s something seriously wrong with her. If she can’t control her anger, she’s sure that someone will get hurt even worse than Reeve was. Mary understands now that it’s not just that Reeve bullied her—it’s that he made her love him.

Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, burn for a burn. A broken heart for a broken heart. The girls are up to the task. They’ll make Reeve fall in love with Lillia and then they will crush him. It’s the only way he’ll learn.

It seems once a fire is lit, the only thing you can do is let it burn… (Goodreads)

Well, let’s just set the record straight – I was not expecting half of what I just read. Seriously. This book was definitely better and more gripping than the first instalment was! I connected with the characters more and I felt more engaged with the story now that I know who all the characters are and what they are like – I think as soon as you get past the “getting-to.know-you” phase, this is a really good story!
I found that I liked Kat, Lillia and Mary more in this instalment than I did the first. I felt more connected to them on an emotional level because I felt there was more of a description and in depth this time around. I would have liked to have seen them more together and hanging around etc. since they are friends – however, I can understand the problem of hanging around in public.
Again, I was reminded of John Tucker Must Die through the whole revenge idea they had going on with Reeve. In a way, I felt sorry for him – even though he isn’t exactly the nicest of characters and the way in which he was stringing Rennie along was exactly what Lillia was doing. I also felt sorry for Alex as he was more of a collateral damage kind of figure – I felt that Lillia should have been honest with him from the very start; he didn’t deserve to be treated in the way in which he was after he helped her etc.
I liked the way in which the storyline with Mary developed throughout the book. i had already guessed earlier on within the book what was going on, but I still enjoyed reading the way in which it panned out. I don’t want to say too much, but I think that the authors have a whole lot of explaining to do with the amount of questions that they have just posed for the readers. I am looking forward to reading the next instalment (which I have! :-D) just to see how they explain themselves away!
If you haven’t read this book – then maybe you shouldn’t read this paragraph. Seriously, I was upset! I can’t believe what happened to Rennie! I mean, I already knew because I accidentally read the synopsis of the last book without even realising (I guess I am secretly blonde or something), but I wasn’t expecting it to go down the way it did! Even though Rennie was a diva and even though she annoyed the pants off of me most of the time, she didn’t deserve what she got at the end of that book. I felt sorry for people like Kat and Lillia – because even though they had been arguing etc, they were still her friends for a very long time.
I am going to crack open the last instalment right away, since I don’t think that I can wait that long to see how the next one goes down! I enjoyed this instalment much more than the first and gave it 4/5 stars! 🙂

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian

burn for burn

Postcard-perfect Jar Island is the kind of place where nobody locks their doors at night, where parents can sleep easy, knowing their daughters are tucked away safe and sound in their beds.

But bad things can happen, even to good girls, and sometimes the only way to make things right is do something wrong.

Lillia used to trust boys, but not anymore. Not after what happened this summer. And she’ll be damned if she lets the same thing happen to her little sister.

Kat is through with being called a freak. She’s over the rumors, the insults, the cruel jokes made at her expense. It all goes back to one person – her ex-best friend – and Kat’s ready to make her pay.

Four years ago, Mary left Jar Island because of a boy. But she’s not the same girl anymore. Now that she’s back, he’s gonna be in trouble . . . ’cause she’s coming for him.

Three very different girls who want the same thing: sweet revenge. And they won’t stop until they’ve each had a taste. (Goodreads)

I have had this book on my TBR for absolutely ages now – I can’t even remember adding it, it has been that long! I am glad i managed to find it on my monster list again after reading a review of the last book in the series. This book was mostly an enjoyable, fast read – but a little bit hard to get into at the beginning.
The book follows the POV of three characters seeking revenge on people who they believe have wronged them. Kat, Lillia and Mary team up together to exact revenge on Reeve, Rennie and Alex. What starts of as innocent fun on Alex soon turns sour as it goes way too far.
At the beginning I was almost reminded of John Tucker Must Die – for anyone who hasn’t seen this film, it is definitely worth the watch! It was a little slow at the beginning when we first got to know the characters we were reading. It was almost a struggle to actually carry on reading without going off and doing something else.
Having said that, the book picked up as the three characters started meeting up secretly and planning/carrying out their revenge. We began to see the characters from a new light and we were learning the reasons behind the revenge. While some of it is misplaced anger through misunderstandings, I could understand why Kat and Mary wanted revenge on Rennie and Reeve.
Toward the end, I felt like I was in a written, not so extreme version of Carrie. For anyone who hasn’t seen Carrie, she is a bullied teenager who has the ability to move things with her mind. I wasn’t expecting a paranormal aspect to the book whilst reading the synopsis and I am not entirely sure where the authors are going to go with this storyline. I am interested to find out and I am also interested to see if any of the other girls have some sort go weird ability.
While I mostly enjoyed this book, I was disappointed with the beginning of the book itself. I am looking forward to carrying on the series, however and seeing how the characters develop further. I gave this book 3/5 stars.

Hey guys! 🙂 I only have one book that I added to my shelf this week – but I am still excited to reading it all the same!

Now, I have had this on my TBR for so long, I can’t even remember how I found it or what prodded me to add it to my monster list! I think it is about time that I took it off, don’t you think?
