I literally went into this book with absolutely no idea what I was reading. When I first saw this book – before it came out – I saw the cover and the author and added it to my TBR list without actually reading the premise. I only realised I never read the premise when I had actually started reading the book – so I just carried on reading it!
I really enjoyed this book – despite the fact that this book was like a set up for the next books to come. It described the characters and the setting in so much detail, I felt like I was there. The world building was breathtaking and I wish I was in the world of Prythian. With this much detail, I could easily go into the next book fully aware of what the author is trying to portray in both the world building and the characters. I feel like the next books in the series are the ones that are going to hold all of the main events!
I loved Feyre as a character! She is strong minded and willed, as well as being witty and funny. She has both enough conscience and courage to make any reader want to be her best friend! I felt sorry for her throughout a lot of the book because of what she had endured both at home in the human realm and in the Faerie realm with the evil faeries! her relationship with Tamlin gave me the feels!! I totally didn’t ship them at the beginning of the book. If anything, I actually shipped Lucien and Feyre. As their relationship grew, however, I was reminded of the story of Beauty and the Beast in the weirdest sense and I began to want them to be together – to beat all of the odds!
Of couse, I became torn when Rhysand entered the picture on a more permanent basis. Something called to him that I just adored – despite his creepiness!! Of course, he used her in the sense that he wanted to be free – but at the same time, he grew on me! So, now I am torn between the two and I can’t decide who I ship more!! I wonder why he stumbled back at the end though.
I really liked Lucien. I understood him in the sense that I could understand why he was unpleasant toward Feyre at the beginning and I could understand why he would hesitate to help her. At the same time, I am glad that Feyre grew on him and that he began to help her – I began to see him as a brother toward Feyre in the sense that he was there for her in a different way that Tamlin was. Her seems like the sort of character who you could lean on in a difficult time. I liked him – nothing more to it!
That ending!! I was not expecting that! I was thinking a lot of different things, but not what happened to Feyre at the end! I don’t want to give too much away, but I am excited to see where this story is going to go with that turn of events!
I really enjoyed this book, even if it was only the beginning and the set up of the next books to come!! I am looking forward to seeing where this series is going and I gave this book 4/5 stars.
