Waiting on Wednesday is hosted at Breaking the Spine
Hey guys! It is time for another WOW! This weeks pick for me is the sequel to a book that I just finished last week and, after the ending, I am really excited about getting book two! Also, this book has absolute #coverlove and I just need it on my shelf!
A Poison Dark and Drowning by Jessica Cluess
Expected Publication: September 19th 2017 by Random House for Young Readers
The magicians want her to lead.
The sorcerers want her to lie.
The demons want her blood.
Henrietta wants to save the one she loves.
But will his dark magic be her undoing?
Henrietta doesn’t need a prophecy to know that she’s in danger. She came to London to be named the chosen one, the first female sorcerer in centuries, the one who would defeat the Ancients. Instead, she discovered a city ruled by secrets. And the biggest secret of all: Henrietta is not the chosen one.
Still, she must play the role in order to keep herself and Rook, her best friend and childhood love, safe. But can she truly save him? The poison in Rook’s system is transforming him into something monstrous as he begins to master dark powers of his own. So when Henrietta finds a clue to the Ancients past that could turn the tide of the war, she persuades Blackwood, the mysterious Earl of Sorrow-Fell, to travel up the coast to seek out strange new weapons. And Magnus, the brave, reckless flirt who wants to win back her favor, is assigned to their mission. Together, they will face monsters, meet powerful new allies, and uncover the most devastating weapon of all: the truth.
I am really excited about this book – and even if I wast excited about the content, I just ADORE THE COVER!!!!
What books are you guys waiting on?
The cover is great, and the story sounds like something I’d read, added to my TBR along with the first book.
I haven’t had time to make a Waiting on Wednesday post yet, but the books I’m eagerly waiting are Red Sister by Mark Lawrence and Unholy Consult by R. Scott Bakker.
I am reading the e-ARC of Red Sister right now, but it would be nice to have the hardcover copy on my shelf. I think it’s definitely your cup of tea and I highly recommend, it’s awesome YA set in all-female martial-magic school environment. The Unholy Consult is a book we Bakker fans have been waiting for years and it’s finally coming out (that series is probably way too gritty and dark for you.)
I hope you enjoy them 🙂
I don’t know either of those series but I will definitely check them out! And I do Dark and gritty as well, it just has to be done right, otherwise it is just a complete fail for me!! I hate it when authors attempt to do stuff like that, or horror etc. And it just doesn’t work! So, please, don’t think I won’t like t just because it’s dark and gritty! If it’s ya, I will have a loon 🙂
R. Scott Bakker is a genius and his prose is just mind-blowing. I started reading his second trilogy, it’s even better than the first. Mark Lawrence’s new book Red Sister is coming out in April, a whole new series, very different from his other books and that one is also mind-blowing awesome. Not as gritty, but dark setting and has superb strong female characters.
I will definitely check both authors out!
While I did not enjoy A Shadow Bright and Burning, I have to admit that these covers are so gorgeous ❤
They are so 😍😍😍😍 I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it
I just was not the right audience. I am sure many will ☺
Great pick for this week Lauren. I haven’t actually read the first book yet, so I skimmed past the blurb section of this post, but I’m sure it will be incredible. I’ve heard great things about A Shadow Bright and Burning, it’s on my to-read list so I need to get around to it soon, and oh the covers for this series are beyond gorgeous as well! 😀 ❤
I hope you enjoy it when you get to it 🙂 and the covers are absolutely beautiful!!
Thanks, I’m sure I will. 😀
