Soldier… Sorcerer… Savior… Who is Vhalla Yarl?

Vhalla Yarl marches to war as property of the Solaris Empire. The Emperor counts on her to bring victory, the Senate counts on her death, and the only thing Vhalla can count on is the fight of her life. As she grapples with the ghosts of her past, new challenges in the present threaten to shatter the remnants of her fragile sanity. Will she maintain her humanity? Or will she truly become the Empire’s monster?

Fire Falling is the second book in the Air Awakens Series.

After reading Air Awakens, I literally had to buy the second book as soon as possible. I loved the first book and I loved this book even more! Especially after that ending! As soon as this book ended, I went to the amazon store and bought the third book! Of course, I couldn’t start reading it last night because it was late and I have to be up early with my son!

I liked Vhalla in this book – not to say I didn’t like her in the last book. I think the way in which her suffering was written was exactly the same way as a normal person with PTSD would be feeling. It felt authentic. However, I loved the way that Vhalla always found a new way to be strong and always stood back up no matter what happened to her or what was thrown at her. I loved her loyalty toward Aldrik. No matter what she was told or what stories were told to her etc. She always stood by his side no matter what. She was pretty fierce when it came to him and I totally ship them!

I also loved Aldrik. We got to see more of him within this book through the dream memories that Vhalla was having. It was easy to see why he became the way that he did and why he was so cut off and stayed away from everyone else. I actually felt really sorry for him and just wanted to wrap him up in a  bear hug! I definitely think he needed to open up a little bit more with Vhalla because she has proven herself time and again that she was loyal to him etc.

I think this book was definitely more character heavy than plot. It focused a lot on character development with all the characters, not just the two MC’s and, whilst some things did still happen, the plot was focused mostly on the march north to war. There were a few episodes that kept me on the edge of my seat (like that ending!! Hello!!) but, I did like the focus on character building – I hope that the next book, therefore, is more plot driven!

A certain someone’s death hit me really hard and I struggled not bawl like a baby all over again when it happened… mostly because my husband was next to me and I am pretty sure he would have thought that I am some sort of crazy lady!

Can I just say that ending?!? Like… seriously!! It was amazing and it was a cliff hanger and … let’s just say, if the next book hadn’tve been published by now, I would have been tearing out my hair. It was such a cliffhanger – it was actually petty abrupt! This is why I literally closed the book on my kindle, went into the kindle store and bought the next one. Which I am going to go and start (which I would have already started by the time you guys read this!)

I really enjoyed this book and I am loving the series so far as a whole! I cannot wait to start Earth’s End! I gave this book 5/5 stars!

Have you read this book? did you enjoy it?

I haven’t read this book yet, but I do own it! In fact, I have an ARC of Air Awakens, a finished PB of Fire Falling, and an eBook of Earth’s End… I’ve wanted to read FF for a long time now but I think I’ll need a recap of AA before I start it! It’s been sooo long.

Thanks for stopping by Princessica of Books!
