At last, Alexa and King Damian are engaged to be married. But their lives are far from safe. The kingdom of Antion is under siege, and Rylan is a prisoner of the enemy. Even worse, Alexa remains at the mercy of the evil Dansiian Rafe, who controls her mind and can force Alexa to kill or harm Damian at any moment. Despite this, Alexa is determined to rescue Rylan, which soon leads her far from Damian and deep into enemy territory.

When she arrives, what awaits her is deadlier than anything she could have ever imagined: an army of black sorcerers and a horrifying plot to destroy the world as Alexa knows it. Will she be able to gather the strength to free herself, protect the love of her life, and save the land? Will there ever be true peace?

Acclaimed author Sara B. Larson has woven a stunning, romantic, and evocative finale to the Defy trilogy that is sure to leave readers breathless until the very last page. (Goodreads)

Am I the only one here who is devastated about the fact that this series had to come to an end? This is one of those series, for me, that I just didn’t want to end. I was having too much fun reading about all the characters and the events that were going on; I was feeling the feels and I was stuck so deep into this book that I had to dig myself out of it when it ended. This is how amazing this book was.

It was obvious that having Alexa protecting the king (and her fiancé, I might add) was never going to work. Damian was too stupid to let her do her protecting thing and him to do his not getting killed thing. I guess this is true love. These two gave me the feels in this book – and who doesn’t love the feels? I believed in their romance and I wanted nothing to get in the way of it! I was so happy for them, that when it started to go pear shaped, I was depressed enough for the both of them!

Can I just say how much I love Alexa?? She was knocked down time and time again but she always managed to get back up and find a way out of the situation that she was in. She is a female heroine who every reader, male or female, could look up to and draw strength from. She is smart and witty – who doesn’t love that in a character? She also begins to feel more comfortable in her skin and the way that she looks (the scars) which I think is another kind of strength entirely. However, we never did find out why she was the one person who was unable to be defeated by a sorcerer. Was it because she really was just that good, or was there something in her blood? It will remain a mystery!!

We saw Damian at the beginning and we saw Damian at the end. We were even privileged enough to get two POV’s from him; again, one at the beginning and one at the end. I wanted more from Damian, though. He was a character that grew on me throughout the entire series and at the end, I just wanted more from him somewhere in the middle – even though he was no where near Alexa!

A certain couple of deaths hit me harder than I thought they would. The first had me moping around the house for a while, whilst the second had me in tears!! How could you do this to me, Larson?? Seriously? I can’t believe it had to end like that!!

Let’s Talk about Akio (King Armando’s head healer). It may just be me, or I might just be a bit too much of a fan of Harry Potter – but, even though it is written differently, the first thing that came to my mind when I first met this guy was “Accio Firebolt”; clearly I am going crazy!! Unless any of guys had the same reaction?? Maybe the author should have picked a different name – considering a whole generation of people grew up in the beloved world of HP!!

This book did not lack any action and had me hooked from the very first page!! It gave me the feels, the highs and the lows and I just did not want this series to end!! i am very upset that it has! I have given this book 5/5 stars.
