The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

The Iron Trial

From NEW YORK TIMES bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare comes a riveting new series that defies what you think you know about the world of magic.

From two bestselling superstars, a dazzling and magical middle-grade collaboration centering on the students of the Magisterium, an academy for those with a propensity toward magic. In this first book, a new student comes to the Magisterium against his will — is it because he is destined to be a powerful magician, or is the truth more twisted than that? It’s a journey that will thrill you, surprise you, and make you wonder about the clear-cut distinction usually made between good and evil. (Goodreads)

I recieved an ARC of this in return for an honest review. I just want to thank Doubleday Children’s books for approving me!

I absolutely loved this book! When I read the summary I was a little worried that it was going to be a bit like Harry Potter – but it isn’t. At all. I am really glad that I was give the opportunity to read this book before its release!

Call, Tamara and Aaron are our three main characters. They attend the Magisterium where they are trained by Master Rufus to control their magic. Some of the things in which they are told to do is actually quite amusing and it actually makes you feel sorry for the characters having to do it in order to learn. I actually liked all three of the characters and I felt like I could connect to them in some way or another. Call (Callum) Is socially unaccepted. People think he is crazy or don’t accept him fully because of his crippled leg. At the Magesterium he finally manages to find friends and it actually makes your heart soar at just how happy he is. Tamara learns loyalty and Aaron is always genuinely nice and friendly and I am glad that Call eventually accepted him. I don’t want to give too much away about the book and what happens, but the characters are enjoyable.

I was also pretty convinced by the world that I was entering. It was well thought out and pretty well written. You could imagine yourself there as a part of it and it was an easy picture to conjure up in your mind. Like I said, I don’t want to give too much away about the book – the twist at the end is AMAZING! I was literally blown away, I just wasn’t expecting it. At all! This book had me gripped from the very first page and since then I have just wanted to know what happened to the characters and how the plot turned out! I know that this book hasn’t even been released yet, but I hope they hurry up and release the next one!

Thank you, again, for the approval! I gave this book 5/5 stars.
